What is mPassport Police App?

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah dedicated 350 mobile Tablets to personnel of the Delhi Police Special Branch on the occasion of the force’s Raising Day. These devices will now enable the entire process of police verification and submission of report to become paperless, according to a release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs Regional Passport Office (RPO), Delhi, on Friday.

“Police verification is an integral part of the passport issuance system. Various steps have been taken to streamline and expedite the process. To further expedite the process, the Ministry of External Affairs has introduced mPassport Police App,” the Regional Passport Office in Delhi said.

How will verification be done

Verification using tablets will reduce the verification time from 15 days to five days, effectively reducing the passport issuance timeline by ten days, according to the release by Delhi’s Regional Passport Officer, Abhishek Dubey.

The mPassport Police app is available for download to Police Station users. These include those already accessing the PSP Police (Web) application for police verification processing of the passport services applicants in order to record the input (details) of field verification processing done at the applicant’s address. This means that the app is intended for police personnel visiting passport applicants’ homes for verification.

Entire process made paperless

This will result in the entire process of police verification and submission of report digital and paperless.

To address the surge in demand for Police Clearance Certificates, the MEA decided to include the facility to apply for PCC services at all online Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) across India last year.
