Dog Lost After Hampton Bays Crash Found Safe: 'Let's Keep Saving Them'

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A dog missing after a Hampton Bays crash last week was found safe Tuesday night, following a desperate search by a team of angel volunteers.

According to Charmaine DeRosa, who works with dog tracker Teddy Henn of Long Island Lost Dog Search and Rescue, Henn not only searched the woods, but a specific residential area where a spotting had been reported.

“It was pouring ice rain. Flyers everywhere,” DeRosa said. Henn said a call came in that Juva had been found outside a home.

Long Island Lost Dog Search & Rescue thanked all who came to search including Henn and his dog Winston, Tracy McLaren, Patricia Demott-Dussault, and Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa and the Southampton Town Police Department, for droning and help with the search.

Henn’s mission is to bring all lost dogs home to their families. “Let’s keep saving them,” he said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place on Sunrise Highway Friday near Exit 65 on the westbound side in Hampton Bays at 9:30 a.m.

One of those involved in the crash lost their dog when it became frightened and ran off into the woods, police said.

New York State Police, Southampton Town police and animal control officers combed through the woods on foot and utilized a drone to look for the small white Pomeranian, but the dog, Juva, was not initially found, authorities said.

But thanks to a caring community, all said, Juva was reunited with her family.
