WESTPORT, CT — Ellis Tibere, the Guilford man who is accused of stabbing a woman in a Westport parking lot in January 2020, has been offered a plea deal in the case that would send him to prison for 13 years, reported the Connecticut Post.

State prosecutors in the case offered Tibere the deal, which includes seven years of special probation after the prison term.

Tibere, who is in custody on bail of $2 million, appeared remotely during a hearing in Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday. His attorney, John Gulash, reportedly did not accept the plea deal, but offered to discuss an alternative sentence.

Patch reached out to Gulash for comment, but did not immediately receive a reply. Tibere’s next court date is Aug. 2.

Tibere, who was 18 at the time of the incident, is charged with attempted murder, in which he is accused of stabbing a Greenwich woman in the parking lot of a salon on the Post Road East in Westport.

The victim, who was 33 at the time, suffered a serious leg injury in the attack.

When reached for comment, the victim’s attorney, Eugene Riccio, declined to discuss the offer.

“It would be premature at this point for me to comment,” Riccio told Patch.

After his January 2020 arrest, Tibere was released on bond, but spent time at the Whiting Forensic Hospital in Middletown under evaluation.

Following his release from Whiting, Tibere was back at home when he removed the GPS monitoring device on his ankle. That led to another arrest in December 2020, and he has been in custody since then.

He has also undergone two mental evaluations, and has been found to be competent to stand trial.
