BEVERLY HILLS, CA — After an extensive search, Beverly Hills High School has found a new, permanent principal — and he’s a familiar face. Current co-principal Drew Stewart will take over solo leadership of BHHS after the end of this school year.
Stewart has shared the school’s top job with Kim Decatrel during this school year, in an interim arrangement that came after former principal Mark Mead transitioned into a district role. Last year, district officials created the interim co-principal arrangement after deciding they couldn’t find the right person for the permanent post.
A rigorous search and interview process followed: A panel of community members and school leaders narrowed down a national pool of candidates in recent months. Students led tours and candidates met with scores of school officials for interviews.

The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve Stewart’s appointment in what board President Noah Margo called a “celebratory” moment.
“I’m so exited you’re joining us in a different role,” Superintendent Michael Bregy told Stewart at the meeting. “Your experience is going to just bring so much to our school. We’re on a road to success and you’ve really placed us in a place where we’re going to be moving a lot quicker.”

Bregy in a statement called the co-principal arrangement “tremendously successful” and thanked Decatrel for her dedication and leadership.
Before he ascended to the co-president post, Stewart served as BHHS’s assistant principal and was previously a teacher there. He has a Master’s degree in education, teaching and learning from Point Loma Nazarene University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego.
