120-MPH Chase Suspect Weaves Through Oncoming Traffic Across LA County

LOS ANGELES, CA — A stolen vehicle suspect led police on a chase across Los Angeles County freeways at speeds reaching 120 miles per hour on the wrong side of the road with headlights off before fleeing on foot into a marijuana dispensary and being tacked by police Tuesday night.

The wild chase began shortly before 7 p.m. at Fifth Street and Santa Monica Boulevard when officers tried to stop a Mercedes SUV reported stolen from Texas, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of the stolen vehicle briefly drove on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway near Palms before exiting onto West Adams Boulevard in the Jefferson Park area, KCAL reported. On Adams Boulevard and other sides streets, the driver reached speeds of 60 miles per hour while driving on the wrong side of the road, running red lights and weaving through traffic, KTLA reported.

The danger prompted police to back off and follow in tracking mode as the suspect fled from the Santa Monica area to Sylmar taking the I-10 to the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway and eventually onto the Golden State (5) Freeway.

Police reported seeing the driver or passenger throw something out of the vehicle during the chase.

Weaving in between freeways and side streets, the suspect sped through crowded parking lots and into incoming traffic with the SUV’s lights off.

At around 8 p.m., the vehicle stopped at the Metro train station in Sylmar, where the suspects fled on foot near Truman Street and San Fernando Road. The driver briefly ran into a marijuana dispensary moments before being tackled by officers and taken into custody.

The passenger in the SUV continues to be sought by law enforcement.
