Missing Napa Woman Found Dead, Police Say

NAPA, CA — A Napa woman who was reported missing was found dead Tuesday just outside Napa city limits, police said.

Concerned neighbors reported Paula Jo Garcia, 78, missing Sunday to the Napa Police Department.

Patrol personnel responded to Garcia’s residence on Georgia Street in Napa and found no signs of a disturbance or break-in, Napa police Lt. Chris Pacheco said.

“It was unusual for Paula to be gone and a missing person investigation was initiated,” Pacheco said.

Law enforcement officials with the California Highway Patrol, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Helena Police Department searched for Garcia and her vehicle, a gray Toyota Prius.

Garcia was considered at risk because of medical conditions. Police believed she may have gone up valley, and asked for the public’s help to locate her.

“Concerned neighbors and residents of Napa assisted in search efforts and their efforts
were greatly appreciated,” Pacheco said

On Tuesday, Garcia’s Prius was found in the 2200 block of Big Ranch Road, less than 3 miles from her Georgia St. residence.

Law enforcement searched the area around the car and found her dead, Pacheco said.

Detectives from the Napa Police Department and Napa County Sheriff’s Office investigated the area and did not find any evidence of suspicious or criminal activity in her death.

Initial evidence showed she arrived in that area sometime Friday night, police said.
