Village Players Of Hatboro Open 77th Season

HATBORO, PA —The Village Players of Hatboro are ready to act.

The curtain will be up Friday night as the players perform for its 77th season, with a few years of performances lost during the COVID-19 years.

While Janet Rosenberg —who has served as the lead actress in several recent productions —is sitting this one out, she also wears many hats for the community organization, serving as its marketing director, head of fundraising, and social media committee chair.

The cast performing Friday night and for seven more shows will feature 12 members, keeping the theater torch burning bright when groups like these are falling by the wayside across the country.

“I think it’s extremely important for communities to have a place to gather together,” Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg grew up in Clearfield, an hour northwest of Penn State University. She now lives in Dresher.

She got involved with the theater in 2017, serving as the organization’s secretary first before adding other responsibilities to her resume.

Rosenberg often acted in plays in high school and college and The Village Players hold open auditions to any community member. The Village Players of Hatboro are always looking for some fresh faces.

The first production of the new season is “The Creature Creeps!” Edward Young directs the production by Jack Sharkey.

Shows are set for Sept. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 15. They will be performed at 401 Jefferson Ave., right off County Line Road.

Here is a description of the show:

“This hilarious send-up of the horror story genre has an ancient castle, creaking doors, a mad scientist, his misshapen assistant, a grim housekeeper, a secret laboratory, shrieks from the depths of the cellar, disappearing villagers, an incredibly stalwart and stupid hero of sterling character, the scientist’s dopey daughter, and so many laughs you’ll lose count. The setting (designed for both proscenium and in-the-round performances) is the parlor of Castle Von Blitzen in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania. Where is the Baron Von Blitzen’s secret laboratory? That’s what the terrified villagers would like to know.”
