Both Drivers Cited In Fiery Trick Versus SUV Crash In Vernon

VERNON, CT — The driver of the sport utility vehicle that collided with a box truck last Thursday in a fiery crash had an active warrant for his arrest and the truck driver’s license was under suspension, state police said this week,

Vernon Fire Department officials said several 911 calls reported the crash on the westbound side of the highway just prior to Exit 66 at 4:48 a.m. Responders encountered a Nissan Rogue that had rear-ended a box truck and both vehicles burst into flames, fire officials said.

All occupants managed to get out of the vehicles safely, fire officials said.

One person was transported to an area hospital while the other involved was evaluated at the scene, fire officials said.

Towing companies removed the vehicles and debris from the roadway.

The driver of the box truck, a 45-year-old East Hartford man, was charged with driving while under suspension. A warrant had also been issued for his arrest out of Manchester, state police said.

The driver of the Nissan, a41-year-old Vernon man, was cited for a lane violation.
