ENCINITAS, CA — Two community organizations have teamed up to help keep San Elijo Lagoon clean.
Cardiff Farmers Market, which is hosted by the Cardiff 101 Mainstreet Association, and We Clean Trails are hosting a trail cleanup Saturday around the San Elijo Lagoon — and volunteers are needed.
“Join us this weekend as We Clean Trails teams up with the Cardiff Farmers Market for one of our first cleanup events in North County,” We Clean Trails founder Marisa Butler said to Patch. “Together, we’re not just picking up trash, but building community and making our environment healthier for all.”

To date, We Clean Trails has removed just over 28,000 pounds of litter since the community cleanup organization was founded nearly four years ago, Butler noted.
“Let’s work toward our goal of 30,000 pounds of trash removed by our four-year anniversary in June,” she said. “Every hand makes a difference!”

Community members are invited to join the cleanup starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cardiff 101 info booth at the Cardiff Farmers Market. The farmers market is held at MiraCosta College’s San Elijo Campus at 3333 Manchester Ave. in the Cardiff community of Encinitas.
Pre-registration is not required. Volunteers will receive a complimentary gluten-free protein bar from Island Girl Bakes, a cup of Six Summit Blend coffee from TrailBlend Coffee, and a Cardiff Farmer’s Market tote bag, according to event organizers.
