Water Discharge Work Extended In Manhattan Beach

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Water discharge work that has caused large amounts of water to flow down Manhattan Beach Boulevard has been extended until Friday, city officials announced.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is discharging the after following the recent Tropical Storm broke August rainfall records across Los Angeles County. Originally scheduled to be completed Monday, MWD informed the city that the dewatering operation will continue until Sept. 1.

“This water discharge work is required by MWD to address issues related to Tropical Storm Hilary and prevent water quality problems from arising in their system,” city officials said.

The water flows along Manhattan Beach Boulevard from Aviation Boulevard to Redondo Avenue where it is discharging into Polliwog Park.

Residential water supply and business will not be impacted by the operation and it isn’t expected to impact traffic. If needed, intermittent lane closures may occur on westbound Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Harkness Streeyt, according to the city.
