Pooches Get Their Chance To Frolic In Yorktown Pool

YORKTOWN, NY — Once the summer swimming season is over for Yorktown residents, there’s only one thing left to do: Let the dogs have their turn.

Yorktown’s Junior Lake Pool will be turned over to the canines for the fourth annual Puppy Pool Party from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Both the main pool and the wading pool — for small dogs — before the facility is drained for the season.

Humans can bring their dogs’ favorite toy and watch their four-legged charges enjoy splashing around.

Marissa Lieto, assistant superintendent for Yorktown Parks & Recreation, told Patch that the puppy pool party is “a fun last hoorah for our community to enjoy the pools with their four-legged friends that would normally not be able to during the regular season.”

She said the inaugural event was held in 2020, and since then, about 30 dogs have participated each year.

Lieto said there have been nothing but positive reactions from the townspeople about the event.

“People enjoy being able to give their dogs a chance to have fun in the pool and play with other dogs,” she said. “The event is a good time for all!”

There are some rules that have to be followed, however.

No humans will be allowed in the pool, and aggressive dogs will be asked to leave immediately.

Dogs must be cleaned up after; waste bags will be provided.

All dogs must have proof of a dog license or up-to-date vaccination records at check-in to enter the pool facility.

Yorktown residents can visit the Town Clerk’s office for a dog license application or visit this website. Nonresidents will need to contact their local municipality’s office to obtain a dog license in their locations.
