Man Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison For Fatal North Brunswick Crash

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A 28-year-old Hightstown man was sentenced to six years in prison for a 2022 crash that resulted in the death of a person in North Brunswick, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said.

On June 28, 2022, around 11:50 p.m., Egrevel Vasquez-Garcia, 28, was driving a 2016 Toyota Highlander on Route 130 in North Brunswick at a high rate of speed when he struck a Jeep Patriot driven by Levelt Alexis, Jr. The Highlander then crossed into oncoming lanes of travel where it struck other vehicles, authorities said.

According to investigation, Vasquez-Garcia was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and assault by auto.

On February 21 Vasquez-Garcia pled guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.

Superior Court Judge Thomas J. Buck, J.S.C., sentenced Vasquez-Garcia to six years in state prison pursuant to the No Early Release Act.

He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole and his driver’s license will also be suspended for 10 years upon release from prison.
